How we use the data collected from Party Squasher

This section of our policy is limited to describing the information we collect from the Box and how we use and share this information. In addition to this section of the policy, please also review the “Common Information Practices” section below, which applies to information we collect in connection with all Services, including the Box.

Information We Collect from the Box

Whenever a WiFi-enabled device (such as a smart phone, computer or tablet) comes close enough to a Box for the Box to detect the device, we may automatically collect the following information about that device:

  • MAC address. This is an identification number that is automatically assigned by the device manufacturer. We “hash” the MAC address on the Box to help de-identify the number, and our servers only collect and store the hash of the MAC address. A “hash” is a method of encryption that aims to obscure the underlying MAC address to help protect user privacy. Unless compelled to by law, we will not attempt to re-identify the actual MAC address from this hash.
  • Other Information. The Box also collects the time and date in which the Box detects the device as well as the relative distance of the Box from the device. We may also be able to collect the brand (such as Apple or Samsung) of the device.

We do not provide an opt-out mechanism in connection with the data we collect from the Box, because the primary use of this data is to help our account holders protect their rights and property.

How We Use This Information

We use the information we collect from the Box to provide, maintain and improve our Services, and to develop new products and services. For more information about our Services, including the way in which the Box can help home owners figure out whether there is a party or other unwanted activity taking place at their home, please visit

How We Disclose This Information

We disclose the information we collect from a Box in aggregate form to the account holder who created a Party Squasher online account and paired that Box to her account. Users will be able to see the number of devices detected by the Box, and other aggregate statistics related to the time or signal strength detected, but will not see any information about any one particular device. In addition to this aggregate sharing, we may also share the information we collect from Boxes as described in the “Common Information Practices” section below.
